Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday disagreed with President Muhammadu Buhari over claims by him (Buhari) that he inherited “no light, bad roads and no railway.”
Buhari, while briefing Nigerians in the United States last week, had said he met nothing on the ground after he took over as the president.
He had said, “We got into trouble as a country because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015 when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure. Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about $30 per barrel.
“I asked, ‘Where are the savings?’ There were none. ‘Where are the railways, the roads, the power?’ None. I further asked, ‘What did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years?’ They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars? I did not believe, and still do not believe.”
However, Jonathan, while making an indirect reference to Buhari’s claims, said he was proud of his achievements, especially in the area of rail construction.
Jonathan, in a Facebook post, made reference to a piece written by a former PUNCH columnist, Tolu Ogunlesi, which was published on January 12, 2015.
The ex-President said, “I am grateful to God and my team for what we were able to achieve with our railways, among other things.”
Ogunlesi, who now serves as the Special Assistant on Digital/New Media to President Buhari, had praised Jonathan’s achievements in a piece entitled, ‘The case for and against President Jonathan.’
In his Facebook post, Jonathan lifted the quote from Ogunlesi’s piece, “Let’s start with infrastructure. On the railways, the Jonathan government scores high marks. The railway line between Lagos and Kano has been revived after about two decades of inactivity.
“The Enugu-Port Harcourt line has just been launched; Abuja-Kaduna is almost finished. There was a determined push to upgrade airports across the country, for which we are grateful.”

Former first lady, Mrs Patience Ibifaka Jonathan has concluded plans to drag the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the African Commission of Human and Peoples Right in Gambia.
Sources close to the legal team said they took the decision to seek legal redress in a court free from manipulation.
Already a new group, The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB) has thrown its weight behind the decision to drag the EFCC before the African Commission of Human and Peopless Right over its case Mrs Jonathan.
The group, in statement by its spokesman, Chima “Phillip Effiong” Osuji, condemned what it called the “the undue harassment and campaign of calumny masterminded by the EFCC against Patience Jonathan.”
The group insisted Mrs Jonathan “cannot get fair trial in a Nigerian court commended and Mr Timipa Jenkins Okonipere for his decision to drag the EFCC before the West African Court.
“TRIPOB believes that under the current political dispensation in Nigeria, Mrs. Jonathan cannot obtain fair and impartial judgment. Furthermore, by virtue of the enviable political height which the Goodluck Jonathan family has attained, it would be most advisable if Mrs. Jonathan tgoes outside for relief…”

We therefore commend international lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Timipa Jenkins Okponipere for the wise decision to drag the EFCC before the African Commission of Human and Peoples Rights based in Banjul, The Gambia, if the EFCC failed to stop the harassment of Mrs. Jonathan within 14 days. It is a welcome decision.
Accordingly, TRIPOB advises the Goodluck Jonathan Family to remain calm and put their trust in God Almighty; as they shall surely be vindicated.”

Shameless okada riders have been caught on camera stealing bags of cement after a truck had a fatal accident.
A fatal road accident has occurred along the Jinja-Iganga highway in Uganda involving a cement truck carrying about 600 bags of cement.
A cyclist died and two others were seriously injured in the fatal accident. However, things took a bleak form as some Okada riders were seen rushing to the scene of the accident to cart away bags of cement.
Many of the thieves who came with bikes could be seen stealing the cement bags without shame

A man who allegedly tried to violate the Islamic holy book have been punished as local residents are still wondering how his hands was stuck in the book.
According to a social media user, Brendan Ortono, who shared the photo, the man pictured above allegedly got his hand stuck on a Quran after he tried to violate it.
The Facebook who claimed he witnessed the shocking episode, wrote;
“Yes, I was there, I confirmed it, we tried all we could to get his hands off the Quran but our efforts proved abortive. Even as i am talking to U now, his hands are still stucked to the Quran.”
As at the time of filing this report, it is still uncertain which part of the country this incident happened and whether the man has been rescued.

A heartless father has brutally r*ped and killed his daughter on her birthday. The girl identified as Daizsa Bausby was preparing for her 19th birthday when the incident happened.
MTO reports that Police claim that her father Jerry K. Bausby murdered the young honor student. The 40-year-old dad was arrested and charged for her death, according to court records.
According to reports, the girl was found strangled to death inside a Kansas City motel room. The father has been charged with the murder.
The 40-year-old Jerry Bausby appeared before a Jackson County judge, who entered a not guilty plea for Bausby, who is in the process of waiting for a defense attorney. His cash bond was set at $750,000.
Bausby was charged with murder in the first degree. He was also charged with sodomy, incest and sexual assault. Before her death, the intelligent girl was preparing to attend Grambling State University after receiving more than a dozen offers to attend various universities.
